One of the most effective ways to safeguard your HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Coil and sanitise your airstream is by using UV-C light — a specific bandwidth of ultraviolet light known for its ability to destroy airborne pathogens, mould spores, and bacteria.
In this installation, we’ve fitted a UV-C emitter bulb in the supply air section of the HVAC system. This provides continuous disinfection of the air as it circulates, helping to prevent microbial growth on coils and keeping the system cleaner and more efficient.
It’s a simple, low-cost investment that offers powerful protection against mould and bacteria — ensuring better air quality and extends the life HVAC components.
Watch one of our most basic of installs: a single UV-C bulb, effectively emitting continuous sterilisation to the coil and all passing supply air.

HVAC Coils: UV-C destroys viruses, mould, bacteria and fungus in your air system, reducing occupant sickness, increasing energy efficiency and stopping mould growth
What is Ultraviolet C (UV-C)?
The ultraviolet (UV) spectrum is capable of killing or inactivating many species of microorganisms, preventing them from reproducing. Among the various UV wavelengths, UV-C energy at 253.7 nanometres is the most effective for germicidal purposes. This process of using UV-C to inactivate microorganisms is known as Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI).
UV-C light works by disrupting the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) of microbial organisms such as bacteria and viruses. DNA serves as the "blueprint" that enables these organisms to grow, function, and reproduce. When UV-C light alters the structure and molecular bonds within their DNA, it renders the organisms unable to reproduce. As a result, they become harmless and die off without producing offspring, leading to a rapid decline in their population.

Germicidal UV lamps emit a far more powerful and concentrated dose of ultraviolet energy than what occurs naturally from the sun. This makes UV-C technology an extremely effective method for neutralising harmful microorganisms and maintaining cleaner, safer environments.

Clean-Air® offers a wide range of UV-C system configurations, including in-duct UV-C units, coil-mounted UV systems for HVAC AHUs (Air Handling Units), upper-air UV units for in-room disinfection, fixed-mount UV-C packages, and other ultraviolet germicidal solutions. These systems are ideal for commercial buildings, hospitals, clinics, dental and veterinary practices, food and beverage processing facilities, schools and universities, offices, gyms, restaurants, commercial kitchens, manufacturing sites, and many other indoor environments
