Clean-Air to offer cutting edge HVAC restoration using laser technology from Phoenix Lasers

We are introducing this specialist type of surface preparation and restoration that uses progressive laser cleaning technology for a faster, smarter and safer process compared to manual mechanical abrasion.

Laser cleaning offers an effective, sustainable, rapid cleaning and surface preparation solution that is:

  • Suitable for all metals from soft aluminium to carbon steel, stainless steels and Inconel (nickel-chrome-based super alloys)
  • Can be used as a pre-treatment to enhance adhesive, coating and joining binds
  • Ideal for surface preparation and composite to metal bonding
  • Assists with preventative maintenance and inspection

The technology vaporises biofilm (a matrix of mould and bacterial matter), lending itself to advanced surface decontamination and preparation in one.

The laser is able navigate complex shape cleaning, conditioning, degreasing and etching processes, attributes which make it highly suitable for application in the HVAC restoration industry.

"WITH THE HELP OF CLEAN-AIR, INTRODUCING THIS TECHNOLOGY TO THE HVAC HYGIENE SECTOR MARKS ANOTHER STEP IN REVOLUTIONISING SURFACE PREPARATION AND RESTORATION—MAKING IT FASTER, SMARTER, AND SAFER"

Mitchell Menezes, Director at Phoenix Lasers

How it works

The laser cleaning process involves shooting high-energy packets of infrared light onto the surface of the material that needs cleaning. The contamination quickly heats up and becomes vapour, crimping off the surface from the rapid energy absorption, while the underlying substrate remains cool and undamaged.

Before and After example; cleaning of a Medical Autoclave using laser tech

In the below images, you can see the before images of medical autoclaves that were contaminated with biofilm, rust, and other medical waste. The after images show how effective the laser cleaning process is, bringing these assets back to life and returning them to their original state.

ABOVE Medical autoclaves are critical for infection control in healthcare settings. Proper sterilisation of instruments and materials helps prevent the spread of infections and ensures the safety of patients and healthcare workers..

Safer, effective and less time consuming

Cleaning with a laser is safer, more effective, and less time-consuming than chemical treatments and blasting methods. It creates a safer environment for staff and occupants by producing no toxic waste and reducing air pollutants, which positively impacts the environment and helps maintain a zero-harm record on site.

Laser cleaning can be safely carried out both inside and outside, making it ideal for clean room environments. Our staff are trained and operate lasers with skill and in compliance with our stringent safety regulations.

Suitability for HVAC

We are investigating the potential of laser cleaning for HVAC parts and components, focusing on:

  • Biofilm and coating removal - both above and below ceiling restoration
  • Mixed surface cleaning, paint stripping, and rust removal to Sa2.5 level
  • Ensuring surfaces are biologically safe
  • Heavy-duty HVAC fan cleaning
  • Cleaning both inside and outside of air handling units (AHUs) and ductwork

Expectations

We are excited about working with Phoenix Lasers and the transformative potential of laser technology in the HVAC hygiene industry. This smart innovation promises to revolutionise some aspects of way we maintain and clean HVAC systems. By leveraging laser technology, we can achieve more precise, thorough, and eco-friendly cleaning solutions, setting new standards in the industry and significantly benefiting our clients and the environment.
